Thanks Rick. That confirms what I thought it was. I found a video of a young guy about 12 yrs old tying it but he never gave a close up of the fly. I think we will be hearing more from him in the...

Thanks Rick. That confirms what I thought it was. I found a video of a young guy about 12 yrs old tying it but he never gave a close up of the fly. I think we will be hearing more from him in the...
I like using squirrel tail, particularly the grey squirrel. I find that it is somewhat slick so I usually wrap the thread around it twice then use thinned SHHAN and then more thread wraps. Very...
Does anyone have a picture of Rick's caddis from "Fly Tying Made Clear and Simple?" I understand it is very simple but I would like to confirm what it looks like.
Scott, I will confess my ignorance. I am assuming that this chart is relevant to snow/water in the mountains. Here we just look at water levels (cm2). What do these numbers mean to you and fishing...
Nice poppers. I use 5 minute clear epoxy. Almost have to tear part of the popper off to get them off again.
Most minnow or bait fish are usually lighter coloured on the bottom. I use a lot of rabbit fur strips and never colour them.

Just a touch more streamlined with a flat face. Made to look and act more like a struggling minnow on the surface.

Call it what you like - I'm leaning toward The Dark Knight;)
Nicest March Brown pattern I have ever seen. I tried to guess what PGP stood for before I read the recipe. I had it right - just wasn't sure where each material was on the fly. Scott, do you use...
I'm always thinking of bass. That fly (a little blurry so some detail gone) is similar to one we call a redneck rabbit. It will catch bass. Good colour choice too.
A blind man would be happy to see those. Good job. I like that you did not over do the hackle.
I'll be posting pictures of the last of the poppers made from the original block of fire wood I was given. I have found a new source for finished basswood that I will be using after Christmas. ...
An old, blind cowboy wanders into an all-girl biker bar by mistake, finds his way to a barstool and orders a shot of Jack Daniels..After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, > >...
I went shopping at some of my favourite fly tying supply stores....Michael's Craft Store ....Walmart...Dollarama... Anyways I was looking for Sally Hansens Hard as Nails. Couldn't find any at the...
I can never get those tinsel tag thingys right either. I think it has to do with cutting the tinsel with a long tapered point and wrapping in the right direction which I have no idea what that is.
Try a little bit of acetone on a test spot.
I'm with Scott - simple clinch knot but make sure it 's tied well. Or improved clinch.
Anything you end up with would probably be better than what is there now. Nothing to lose and it might be fun to see what you can come up with.
In Ontario there is a significant clientele that books guided trips to fish mooneye on dry flies.

Not all fish were caught on poppers. Popper fishing was slow and I didn't want to miss out on too much of the action.;)
If you look back to the last pic in this thread...
Fish that size?? All day long brother, all day long!!:D
Dave
You are absolutely correct. I had #4 & #6 kinkshank hooks. I should have used the larger ones on the smaller bodies and purchased some #2s for
the larger ones but I got anxious to finish...

Took a while but had lots of time anyways. Next batch should go quicker.

I was given a nice clump of polar bear hair some time ago. Discovered that polar bear hair is not white but actually clear and hollow. It can be dyed really easily.
Makes a good substitute...
