When you are trying to put God in a box don't be surprised when you turn around and He is handing you another nail.
I too am older than dirt! Think I'll go fly a kite.
One of the basic advantages of DT lines is that you can get twice the life out of them by just turning them around when one end wears out. The other is that they tend to roll cast better (easier?)...
Just wondering how many miles of river have been waded since those pictures. :D
Nice fish. I love catching bluegill. They were the first fish my granddaughter would catch back when she was about 5 years old.
Meanwhile I'm sitting here wondering if we will get any ice this...
Were the type of fish you usually catch not biting or were they being....Koi? (sorry it was the best I could come up with);)
Nice fish by the way.
Thanks John. I am finding that the braided line having no stretch tends to become somewhat loose after furling. I believe it is the stretch factor in a material that keeps the leader tightly...
Well, we took a float trip on the Saugeen River in late August. Got a few bass. We raised one nice musky that might have gone 12 - 15 lbs. We hooked another while bass fishing - about 29 inches...
Catching smallies is like eating potatoe chips... you don't want to catch just one. Beauty of a beast!!
Thanks John. I have been furling leaders for a dozen or more years. Mostly mono and nylon thread. I have used mono chord (#3?) for dry fly leaders.
I am trying to find a material that will furl...
Has anyone used or made a furled leader made of braided line? If so do they float or at least will they with some kind of treatment (floatant).
Thanks.
IMHO the sharptail shoulder in the Variation III is a great highlight. Nice fly.
Hope to get my first musky on a fly this year!

I have raised two good ones. Some people count that as a success but I only call it "close but no cigar!"
Nice Drum. The only one I ever caught was out of Lake Huron. It wasn't as big as that one but felt like a school bus at first. Bulled dogged for what seemed like forever, and that was on (forgive...
It would make a great table to use during demonstrations or for taking to a clients place for teaching fly tying, Looks very portable.
The envelope please...............and the winner is....!!!!!
We still have 10 to 12 inches of ice on some lakes.
Thanks Rick. That confirms what I thought it was. I found a video of a young guy about 12 yrs old tying it but he never gave a close up of the fly. I think we will be hearing more from him in the...
I like using squirrel tail, particularly the grey squirrel. I find that it is somewhat slick so I usually wrap the thread around it twice then use thinned SHHAN and then more thread wraps. Very...
Does anyone have a picture of Rick's caddis from "Fly Tying Made Clear and Simple?" I understand it is very simple but I would like to confirm what it looks like.
Scott, I will confess my ignorance. I am assuming that this chart is relevant to snow/water in the mountains. Here we just look at water levels (cm2). What do these numbers mean to you and fishing...
Nice poppers. I use 5 minute clear epoxy. Almost have to tear part of the popper off to get them off again.
Most minnow or bait fish are usually lighter coloured on the bottom. I use a lot of rabbit fur strips and never colour them.

Just a touch more streamlined with a flat face. Made to look and act more like a struggling minnow on the surface.
